Learning Violin as an Adult
Learning the violin as an adult is often a deeply personal decision.
Over the years, I have worked with various adult students. Some picked up the instrument because they never had the opportunity to, when they were younger.
Others had played the violin as children and chose to return years later, rediscovering an interest that had quietly taken a backseat to studies, work, and life.
I also work with adults who have previously learnt the violin with other teachers and are now looking for a clearer, more detailed approach to learning the violin.
Challenges faced as an Adult Learner
Between work commitments and the countless demands of daily life, finding time to practise can sometimes feel like an achievement in itself.
It is not uncommon for adult students to feel frustrated that they know what to do, but their hands suddenly refuse to cooperate.
After all, the violin has spent centuries humbling perfectly intelligent people…. 😉
A Personal Approach to Learning
Every adult arrives with different goals and experiences.
Some of my most enjoyable teaching relationships have been with adult students who keep showing up, week after week.
Even when they are hungover.
As adults, when we don’t get something right away, it is incredibly frustrating.
Whether it is a mental hurdle or a physical one, I am here to patiently guide my students through those obstacles in real time.
Eventually, they are no longer fighting themselves.
And they finally start making the music they have been yearning for.
